It may be dry in Lubbock, but we still know how to make a big Splash!

A few months ago, we shared about our Champion Xpress Carwash Spring ‘24 campaign. We talked a little bit about everything including working with Flint Avenue in Lubbock, and are now proud to share an article with you that was published from Blackmagic Design about our use of their cameras and editing software.

Our new-found friends at Blackmagic had this to say:

Blackmagic Design today announced that the Hamil Bros Studios, based in Lubbock, Texas, recently produced an advertising campaign for Champion Xpress Carwash using the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K digital film camera, and DaVinci Resolve Studio editing, grading, visual effects (VFX) and audio post production software.”

What the press release doesn’t talk about is our long history of using Blackmagic products.

As a video production company, we found our humble beginnings in 2011. In 2012 we began using Davinci Resolve, for our color grading. In 2013, we embarked on a feature film that ultimately fell flat. However, as we were preparing for the film, we purchased one of the newly released Blackmagic Cinema Cameras. It was an aluminum brick that shot 2.5k raw and we loved it.
In 2014, we expanded our camera kit and upgraded to the Blackmagic Production Camera 4k (same body, more Ks!)
Through the years, we have owned multiple Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras, Micro Cameras, an original URSA Mini, Pocket 4K Cameras, an original Pocket 6K, and, recently the Cinema Camera 6K, and a Pyxis on the way.
While it’s difficult to say when, exactly, we moved to Davinci Resolve, exclusively, for editing, it has been a staple of our workflow for years and, with the implementation of their cloud services, it makes having a team of editors (or just two of us) an asset as opposed to an encumbrance.
Regardless, without the products Blackmagic Design offers, we certainly don’t know where we would be, if anywhere at all, as a production company.
