Celebrating 80 Years with Symphony Sponsor Videos
Hamil Bros Studios helps the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra celebrate it’s 80th season with a series of symphony sponsor videos.
In its 80th season, the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra wanted to do something to celebrate its long and rich history.
To mark such an occasion, LSO enlisted the help of Hamil Bros Studios to create a series of Symphony sponsor videos to highlight the remarkable timespan of 80 years and shine a light on the sponsors who have continued to make this happen for the better part of a century.
Rooted in Collaboration
Hamil Bros Studios and Lubbock Symphony Orchestra History
For the past 3 years, Hamil Bros Studios has sponsored the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra with video production. This was because of, in no small way, the Liggett Law Group and the work that LLG and HBS had done for the Hispanic Association of Women through their nonprofit video production.
Liggett Law Group was, at the time, one of the presenting sponsors for the LSO concerts and Ted had asked us to produce the pre-concert sponsor video for him.
Molly, the head of marketing for Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, was also a member of HAW.
Because of those two connections, symphony sponsor and HAW, she reached out to us to gauge our interest in producing what would become an ongoing project of “round table” discussion videos that would be played before and during the intermission of each LSO Masterworks Series Concert.
This opened the door for the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra to seek out and enlist the professional touch of Hamil Bros Studios to capture and create the 80th Anniversary Lubbock Symphony Sponsor videos.
Scheduling
When Heather (the current CEO and President of LSO) reached out to us to ask if this was something we would be interested in, we, of course, were delighted to oblige. All of us, however, knew that the first major hurdle of this would be scheduling everyone. With 5 sponsors, all owning and operating businesses, scheduling them all in one day would be next to impossible and turned out to be as such.
We aimed for October 1st, of 2026 to get as many of the sponsors as possible in front of the camera with the remainder to be filmed the following week.
Lighting with Life
Lighting the Lobby
From the getgo, we knew that we wanted to film these videos in the lobby of the LSO offices because of the nice wood panelling on the wall along with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra extruded metal sign. It would make for a nice background.
While Jacob built our Blackmagic Pyxis 6k camera with a Tokina 50mm Vista Prime and our Osee G7 Pro Monitor, Ross began the lighting process. There was a limited amount of room for set up so we had planned, end executed, mounting our back lights and wall splash lights to the ceiling.
Ross got the Matthews ceiling clamps mounted into the drop ceiling and continued by mounting our new 3D printed drop ceiling cable hooks (featured here) to manage the extension cords and light cables.
For our main back light, we mounted one of our Amaran 150C full RGBWW point lights with the standard reflector cone.
For the wall splash, we opted for our Aputure Storm 80c BLAIR point light, also with a standard reflector cone.
The Amaran was set to a daylight color while the Aputure was set to a tungsten color to warm up the wall.
Next we began building our key light with our Aputure 600C Pro, also set to daylight, modified with our Aputure LightDome 150 to diffuse the directionality of the light.
The final touch was putting our Aputure P300C NOVA panel light off to the right of camera as an additional back light to accent just a little more and bring a higher key feel to the shoot.
Positioning the Audio
Rigging our Saramonic boom pole to a C-stand, Jacob mounted our Slate ML-2 Microphone to the boom pole and ran the XLR cable back to Ross where Ross was getting our Zoom H6 Studio 32-bit recorder ready to roll with a fresh SD card and a Tentacle Sync timecode unit.
The very last piece of the puzzle was putting some gaff tape down so that our sponsor groups would know where to stand.
With everything in place, we were ready to rock.
The Sponsors
Our first sponsor group was the Henry family from Alan Henry Insurance, followed by Dr. Kelly Robinson, DDS of Robinson and Malone Dentistry, ending with Mike Byrne of Casserole Premium Quality Beans.
Our second group was Evensky Katz and Chicken Express.
We’re very pleased with how the entire shoot went and looked. It was a simple setup that resulted in a simple edit, but, often times, that’s all that’s needed.
