The 2026 Plains Cotton Growers Meeting Video
This video production story starts more than 6 months before the PCG annual meeting was to take place, in Lubbock, TX.
On September 4th of 2025, Hamil Bros Studios was covering an event for Texas Speaker, Dustin Burrows along with Governor Greg Abbott and LT Governor Dan Patrick.
While at the event, Ross received a text message from Kara with PCG asking him to take a photo.
At first confused, Ross soon put together that she was requesting him to take a photo of her with the Governor with her phone.
During this encounter, she told Ross to go ahead and block out April 7 because they would be doing the 2026 Plains Cotton Growers Meeting Video.
Like the previous year, this PCG annual meeting video was going to be a recap video that would go out to attendees and prospects to encourage more attendance for the next year.
Being an annual meeting and the video being fairly formulaic, we knew that this would be an easy enough undertaking.
As planned, we loaded in the day before the meeting and got our interview corner set up and ready for the video production of following day.
Knowing what we were going to be up against in the small gathering room, we planned accordingly and, in our opinion, got better results.
The meeting was at the Overton hotel and our room was on the second floor of the conference center.
If you’ve ever been to the Overton, you know that the rooms there, much like most hotel conference rooms, are not the coolest aesthetically. Most of the time the rooms aren’t too bad because the walls have a generic wall paper pattern or they are one or two-tone painted.
The pattern on the walls in this room looks like dead weeds of some sort. Last year this made for an unappealing background and we wanted to circumvent that by placing our subjects farther away from the wall so that the wall would be more out of focus.
Additionally, we used our Aputure Spotlight Max to cast a design on the back wall to help break up the visual a little bit more.
The next morning came early. We arrived around 6:30am to get everything turned on and ready to go.
Ross put the finishing touches on the interview room while Jacob ran around the conference center with the Blackmagic Pocket 4k Camera on the DJI Ronin RS3 Pro and a couple of Canon R7 cameras.
We were tasked with taking both photos and video of the event and Jacob took care of the lionshare of it, despite fighting a headache from a restless night the night before.
An Unexpected Lunch Guest
Working at the event, we are welcome to join the lunch buffet, hosted by the hotel and, last year, we did just that.
This year, fate had other plans… (insert ominous music)
Not really, shortly before lunch we got a call from our dad, Lonnie, with Spring Creek Ministries and Hamil Bowfishing Expeditions. He was in town and asked if we would get a lunch break and, if so, if he could bring lunch.
With the bowfishing guide service, we don’t see him as much as we would like, so we took the opportunity to spend some time with dear old dad. It was a nice lunch. We had Rosa’s.
Photos of Tyne Morgan: Host of US Farm Report
Before interviews were supposed to take place, we had a unique request: some photos against a green screen along with some sound bites.
Part of the morning’s events were that the US Farm Report was being broadcast live from the meeting, which was a fun spectacle to behold.
This show host, Tyne Morgan was going to be a part of an agricultural display in Lubbock and they needed photos of her for a cardboard cutout display along with some sound bites of her answering some very specific questions.
Tyne and her video crew had also been working their way around the conference center and we were all a little bit in each other’s way.
In our experience, on-air personalities can be difficult to work with and we were prepared for such.
Much to our pleasant surprise, Tyne was an absolute delight to work with. We probably spent more time than was necessary on this portion of the day, but once we started talking, it just wasn’t stopping.
We got to hear some interesting stories from Tyne about how she got where she is and why she’s right where she wants to be.
We got the sound bites and the photos and we were off to the races.
Interviewing Attending Farmers
At this point in the day, most of the events downstairs were over and there were some breakout sessions.
That was when we were scheduled for interviews.
Several attendees were asked to participate and we ended up with several great interviews.
From farmers to crop insurance agents, we ran the gamut on interviewees.
By about 3pm, we were done and ready to pack up and load out.
A few days later, we received an email from Kara asking if the video was going to be ready in time for the post-meeting newsletter. We told her we couldn’t make any promises, but we would do our darndest.
Fortunately, it worked out and we were able to deliver very quickly and get her the materials she needed within days of the event.
