Movie of the Week – 008 The Big Lebowski

Do you see what happens, Larry? Do you see what happens? Do you see what happens when you… Well, maybe we won’t go that far, but, if you want a great anti-hero story, the Big Lebowski is for you.

This movie was a staple in life during my days at Guitar Center. If you made it through a day without quoting it, then the day was a failure. If you could quote it during a morning sales meeting, you would get bonus points.

Following a guy who is all but a burnout through his journey of being confused with a financial tycoon whose wife has gotten them into financial trouble, you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll want to go bowling, and you’ll want In-N-Out.

I’ve always been a fan of Jeff Bridges, but, to me, he’ll always be The Dude. John Goodman is the friend we all have who manages to always do the wrong thing at the wrong time and, ultimately be wrong in his opinions and rants, but, would do anything for his friends, even if he’s particularly mean to them. Steve Buscemi is the guy who just wants to be heard and validated, but, he finds contentment just being with his friends.

To a degree, it reminds me of the dynamic between me and some of my friends in high school. None of us had any clue what we were doing, but, we did our best just to function.
