Intro to book reviews
When I was in school, if I’m being candid, I didn’t really enjoy much of the academics. One of my least favorite things was book reports. I didn’t like reading (mostly because I’ve never been good at it), and I hated writing about things I didn’t want to read in the first place (I’m looking at you The Island of the Blue Dolphins).
That was something that I carried with me for a long time. I have always had an affinity for audiobooks, even though I didn’t realize it for a long time. It all started with Hank the Cowdog and carried on with Harry Potter.
Early on in my adult life, I started to find more enjoyment in audiobooks and it has led me down several paths that I’m sincerely happy that it has.
In this blog series, I hope that you are lead to books that will help enrich your life and assist you in finding direction both professionally and personally.
From Poop to Gold
If you own a business, are into marketing, have a pulse, or are wanting to sell a product, then From Poop to Gold is for you! If you have followed Hamil Bros Studios at all, you’ve seen us talk about the Harmon Brothers, their podcast “When the Ice Cream Hits the Fan,” and what a huge inspiration they’ve been to us.
From Poop to Gold is an all-access pass to look behind the curtain at the magic that is Harmon Brothers. From how they got their start, to where they get their inspiration, and finally, how they have positioned themselves for success by challenging what is generally perceived as “best” (aka “safe”) business practices.
My Thoughts
It’s no secret that, in 2019, From Poop to Gold is the platform that has launched us in a better and more focused direction.
Having followed the Harmon Brothers for a while since their Squatty Potty ad, with the pooping unicorn, we found inspiration in that someone was actually doing the kind of zany advertising that Jacob and I had wanted to do, and we kind of did them with our Merkel Dergler ads.
But, to see those kinds of ads done on a large scale, with no regard to the 30-second advertisement “rule,” it gave us hope that we could finally do what we really wanted to do with no restrictions.
Listening to the audiobook was also inspiring because it showed me that a lot of our decision making is in line with the way they do things (with success, I might add).
This book was also responsible for a lot of the reading/listening materials I have gone through this year, including Creativity, Inc., and Start with Why.
Everything we’ve learned and everything we’ve changed as a result of this book have made a huge impact on the trajectory our journey was going and we can’t thank the Harmon Brothers enough for this resource!
